I made use of water taxi device from MIA Park to Pearl Qatar at a rate of QAR.25/- per person per ride. It took almost 25-20 mins to the Pearl Harbor and Doha bus was waiting to take us to the QIFF 2016 venue, another 10 mins ride.
‘Food Trucks’ are the main theme of food festival at QIFF2016. You could see approximately 10 food trucks from different vendors. The place looked festive with the tricks and lighting. The crowd was quite less on this venue of QIFF2016 comparing to the MIA and Katara.
So my first stop was at ‘Pick &Shake’ -They have a very cute little pink truck which attracts the kids specifically a lot. My girl ran to them without looking anywhere else. My order was a kinder Buenos shake – It was creamy thick and definitely a tasty one.
While she was enjoying her shake, I opted for a cheese paratha and karak from ‘Keema Paratha Karak’. The karak tasted normal and the paratha was good, but not great.
Moving on to wafflemeister, as you all aware, they are famous for their waffles and I could not resist them. My choice went for a ‘Marshmallow Surprise ‘ – a delicious piece of sweet waffle topped with chocolate, mini marshmallows and sprinkling on top. My girl was picking and eating all the marshmallows and once she finished that, she started having the waffle. It is a must try if you are around.
Pickles has been my favourite good since my young age and I thought I would give it a try when I saw fried pickles in the menu of ‘Gourmet’ food truck. Though it was crunchy and tasted good with a dip of sauce, I wish it had some more sourness to it.
My last food trial station at the Pearl Qatar was ‘Burger_3al6ayer’. I am not sure whether they have a restaurant here , it more looked like home kind of business run by an Arabic family. A young Arab girl was looking after everything. The set up of this particular one looked really beautiful with the white tones with a bit of colour. The cute little decoration pics were eye catching.
So I went to them and they gave me a piece of paper to choose and tick my order. I have not seen that anywhere else in Doha and it is convenient for us as well as for them.
I chose their signature burger with some pickles and ketchup, I avoided the cheese as I was bit full at that time. It did took a little while to get my order as there were a bit of rush at the place. The lady was quite friendly and she apologized for the delay. The taste of the burger was really good, the meat was cooked to perfection and succulent. I did enjoyed it .
Apart from good food, there was dance performance by Barbs, a group of talented Saudi Youth and Lion Dance performance by Tian Eng Dragon Lion Dance Centre.
It was then around 0645pm, I took my bus to Pearl Harbor to catch the water taxi at 0715pm. If I miss that, I will have to wait for 45 mins to get the next one as the service will be stopping for some time because of the fire works at 0800pm at corniche. Though I reached there at 0700pm, I could see lots of people waiting and few were getting angry as the water taxi was a 10 seater and they were more than 10 waiting for it. The person behind me fought with the security guy and went inside the gate. Apparently all of them sat on the boat taking risk of their own life, and everywhere anywhere they could find a spot on the boat (a bit scary). I along with my girl waited for 45 mins and took the next ride, I did not had any other option. This was a disappointing incident.
I would like to mention, the organizers already mentioned that the water taxi service will be made available ‘first come first serve’ basis. However, either they had to put more boats to each destinations or they should mention time on the ticket and only provide tickets to the visitors according to the availability of seats.
The MIA park is my favourite from all the three venues of QIFF2016 with lots of food, entertainment and activities. I would suggest to stick to MIA park if you are planning to visit one place. But checking out all the three venue gives you different aspect of the food festival in their own way. So keep exploring and enjoying food.
