Along with my family, I got a chance to stay at the InterContinental Doha The City last week and my first ever visit to the hotel. The hotel inside out is huge and attractive with its structure and interiors.
The first and foremost I would love to talk about the hotel is the Staff itself. They were everywhere and anywhere spreading a warm welcome to all their guests. And that is one the factors I love to receive during my stays in any hotel any part of the world. Here at InterContinental Doha The City, the first impression did created the best impression.
Though we checked in during a week day, the place looked rushy with the hotel guests. We were welcomed by Mr. Ally, Restaurant Manager (I guess I am right with the designation) – a very professional, friendly gentle man. He walked us through the check in process and other facilities of the Hotel.
We were given a deluxe room at the hotel on the 42nd floor with a stunning view of west bay, Doha. While you enter the room, you have a wardrobe area followed by your bed and rest of the amenities. And on one side you have a very spacious toilet and bathroom facilities with a bath tub. I was definitely impressed with the quality and neatness of the room.
Since it was almost 0230 pm, we ordered a pizza from their In Room dining Menu. It took hardly 15-20 mins and the pizza was served. I tasted good with a thin crust and perfect amount of cheese (apparently not the best in Doha).
After settling down, we took a mini tour along the hotel. Being located at one of the best spot in Doha, their swimming pool at the 46th floor offered one of the spectacular view all over Doha. They do have kids and adults pool separately side by side. We did enjoy a valuable family time at the pool with the refreshments served on our order.
We then headed over to The Prime restaurant for a cooking class to learn how to grill a perfect piece of steak. Mr. Ally and few other staffs were already at the restaurant to guide us along our cooking journey with one of their best chef. We were first introduced to different cuts of high quality meat and explained about their significance. After that we went to the grilling kitchen where the chef explained about their signature marination and grilling process.
I would like to mention here that Shahul and me are not really a fan of red meat and never used to order it at any restaurants or visit any steak house particularly to have it. But here after the cooking session and tasting, made us love that piece of flavorful red meat. This was my first ever experience to cook and taste in a real kitchen and I was more than excited – definitely an unforgettable moment.
It would be a shame if I do not talk about their Executive Chef Emmanuel Pauliat. He is the best interactive Chef I have seen so far in Doha. I met him at the cooking session first, then while having dinner at Prime and then the next day during our Breakfast at The Square restaurant. He was walking over mostly all the tables and having friendly talks with all the guests. He was successful in creating a lovely joyable environment through out our dining experience.
The Prime Restaurant was very elegantly designed and created a calm and relax vibe all around the place. We chose to sit near the open grill kitchen where we could see the chef in action. While we were waiting for our food, Mr. Ally took my daughter to The Square Restaurant to show and make a pizza – A beautiful gesture by him.
First we were served with a bread basket with three different flavors of butter – plain, herbs, tomato & pepper. The one we liked was the tomato and pepper butter – very smooth cream and light. We then had a complimentary lobster quinea salad from the kitchen – tasted fresh with lots of simple flavors.
Next up was Crab cakes – It gave a nice crunchy texture outside and a soft delicious crab meat inside. It was beautiful and we did enjoy it.
Now the star of the night – As recommended by the Chef, our order was a Wagyu Ribeye steak. It was served along with a confit Tomato, roasted Garlic and a delicious steamed egg yolk ( for 3 hours or so) on a bed of black olive crumble. You have to order the sauce and side dish separately and we chose to have green pepper corn sauce, Crispy fried Shiitake mushroom and Truffle Parmesan Fries. This was definitely one of the best food I had. The meat was cooked just the way we like it, every component on the plate complimented very well with each other. The fries were delicious and the fried shiitake mushrooms was definitely crispy and now my favorite.
Well, a perfect ending of a dinner is with a delicious treat of dessert and we did not had to think twice before ordering their ‘ Sweet & Sour Melting Sphere’. However it did broke our heart. For some reason the pouring chocolate sauce was not at all hot/warm and the sphere did not melt down and as a result we struggled to enjoy the dessert. This was apparently a failure. We did mention it to the Chef Emmanuel when we met him the next day.
Breakfast served at The Square Restaurant was vast – there were a lot to choose from. I appreciate the hotel for taking care in serving dishes to please the taste buds of different nationalities. My breakfast always starts with ‘Croissants’ – it is my love. A bit disappointed as the plain croissant was not that crispy and flaky I thought it would be. Rest was all fine and tasted beautiful.
We requested for a late check out till 0200 pm and headed over to the pool again and had a great time.
Being with a kid, we usually look for a kids area where we can drop her so that she can play and we as a couple can enjoy some private moments together. Though the hotel had a small kids play area, there was no one to look after her. Our concern was mentioned to Mr. Ahmed Kamel, Front Office Manager through email while we were in the hotel itself. I was quite surprised to see him at the front desk while we were checking out. It was a quick direct response and I appreciate it from bottom of my heart.
That ends our beautiful one night stay at the InterContinental Doha The City. I would recommend this place to anyone and I am sure everyone will enjoy thoroughly as we did.
