I was all prepped up to try out the fairly new Steakhouse in Doha – Hunter’s Room & Grill at Westin Doha. I took my bag, my phone, charger and in the end my camera. I had charged it two days back and I did not bother it to check it again in the morning. Apparently I had forgotten to switch off the camera the other day and it is dead now and that was the stupidest thing I did that day. I did not had time to recharge and I was totally disappointed for the reason that I do not like to use my phone to take photos for my blog. However, I did not had any other option and I made up mind for an iPhone photography. So please excuse me for the picture quality.
The Westin Doha located in the middle of Doha is super luxurious, huge and spacious. The main attraction while you enter the hotel is their chandelier itself. For an instance it felt like a splash of colorful sparkling lighting ready to hit the ground. It was modern and absolutely breathtaking.
From the lobby, I was assisted by a staff to go the restaurant. As I was heading towards the restaurant, my excitement started to build up as I could see some green. I was not at all disappointed, starting with the open dining area, the restaurant has succeeded in creating a little secret garden with some greenary and a huge wolf statue to bring out the essence of their theme. During the day time, you could enjoy natural light falling over you through the glass ceiling. A special mention to their Garden deck kind of set up in the open area surrounded by luscious green which add some privacy and I felt was perfect for a special day dinner.
Moving onto the inner dining area, the place is overall huge with a lounge area and bar counter to enjoy some drinks with live music, an open kitchen area and a bigger room for private meeting or family dinner and the rest normal indoor dining. The interior is very elegant with the contemporary modern design. What I like about the place is that you have an area where you can dine in a dark setting, then you move a bit further, there is a little brighter side and then to the open dining area with lots of light. So you can basically decide which mood you like. Personally I like some light when I dine except for any special romantic dinner.
Our dinner started off with a piece of beautifully baked bread and butter. The starters were prawns cocktail, duck salad and crab cakes. I did not try the duck salad as I am not a fan of it . The prawns cocktail was beautiful and perfectly cooked. The crab cakes were my favorite. I loved every bite of it and can keep on having more and more.
For the main course, we were served with Australian Beef Striploin with caramelized onion, sweet potato chips and grilled chilli pepper. I like my meat to be well done and apparently my piece of meat was a bit more than well done and chewy . Personally for me, the whole dish lacked some sauce or gravy to go along with it. Contrary to this, another main course we tried was the Mushroom platter and it was lip smacking. Different types and textures of mushroom with the cheese filling was delicious. Totally worth trying.
And our favorite part, the desserts – we had to choose from an apple tart or strawberry Mille Feuille and being not a fan of apple tarts, my obvious choose was the strawberry Mille Feuille. And seriously, that one dish could make me smile throughout the day . It had the perfect amount of sweetness, crunch and that yogurt ice cream was way too good.
In total I liked the whole ambiance of the restaurant and the service was nice. However, there was a long delay in serving the main course and dessert. It was due to the kitchen staff being not used to cook for whole lot of people in one go and we were approximately 20-25 people. It is understandable and I believe that they will improve over the time.
